We are a dedicated group of animal lovers and community members who have joined together as Manatee Shelter Watch. Our end goal is to work together and demand a safe, efficient, functional brick and mortar kennel building at the Bishop Animal Shelter.
We want to be sure our lost and abandoned pets have the best possible opportunity at finding a loving home and that the MCAW staff and volunteers have a safe and efficient working environment.

Manatee Shelter Watch is growing, and we have reached the point where we need to turn all of this community energy into organized action.
We are developing volunteer teams so people can contribute their individual skills, interests and time. Please email us at manateeshelterwatch@gmail.com and let us know where your skills and interests fit in or print the Sign-Up Form below and bring it to the next meeting! If you don’t see a team described but think there’s a need for it, let us know.
📝 Writing & Public Comment Support
Help write and proofread Calls to Action, communications to Commissioners and three-minute public comments. We’ll also support community members who want to speak publicly but aren’t sure how to put their thoughts together.
📣 Marketing
Help with T-shirts, yard signs, stickers, flyers, artwork and other materials that help get the Manatee Shelter Watch message into the community.
🤝 Public Engagement
Help locate community events, distribute information—with business permission—and represent Manatee Shelter Watch throughout Manatee County.
📱 Social Media
Help us expand our reach on Facebook, Nextdoor and other platforms while working closely with our Marketing and Communications teams.
🐾 Bishop Shelter Task Force
Help identify and track what needs to be done at the kennels, what has been completed, what remains unresolved and what our priorities should be moving forward.
💡 Manatee Shelter Watch into the Future
We don’t want to lose the great ideas coming from the community while we focus our current efforts on a concrete block kennel building. This team will help preserve and develop ideas for how we can continue supporting Manatee County Animal Welfare after we achieve our immediate shelter goals.
